About Us

ChangeMaker International is a global consulting and program partnership firm with a track record of working with international development agencies, the private sector, government departments and local civil society organizations, to create sustainable opportunities and improve life and livelihood.

Founded by a group of development experts, ChangeMaker International draws expertise of a large number of diversified experts from various countries around the globe. Our teams reflect a diversity of technical expertise and experience, because solving complex development challenges requires both. And as an organization, we are committed to connections – global and local, human and technological – that allow learnings to efficiently flow and adapt between experts, projects, and countries.
Our directors have worked for over two decades in partnerships with bilateral, multilateral, and other international development agencies to address urgent challenge-driven initiatives through designed innovation and finance, community capacity building, and cross-sector partnerships. From sustainable fisheries and regenerative AG to digital transformation and women’s empowerment, we help advance prosperity and promote pathways for self-reliance, resilience, and sustainable impact outcomes around the world.
We match the speed and scale of humanity’s most pressing challenges, applying effective education practices from Australia to Afghanistan, Nigeria to Nepal, from Burundi to Bangladesh to improve children’s literacy, or renewable energy, market driven climate smart livelihood, supporting the local CSOs and local governments.

The private sector is now widely recognized as a key driver of development and is increasingly involved in impact initiatives within its supply and value chains. These companies value our implementation expertise and our unique approach to sustainability. We collaborate closely with organizations and agencies dedicated to designing strategic roadmaps, investing resources, and implementing initiatives that align sustainability goals with positive returns on investment. Our efforts help them seize opportunities and achieve lasting improvements in both capabilities and performance.

About Us

ChangeMaker International is an agile consulting firm with a difference, founded by a group of highly experienced development and business professionals united in their aspirations to deliver sustainable positive impact better.  Bringing diverse experiences from low, middle income and other emerging markets across, and a shared desire to focus on the most meaningful and transformational aspects of building a more inclusive, resilient and prosperous world, we have combined and established ChangeMaker International.

With offices in Africa, Asia, Europe and Australia, we work with corporations, SMEs, global and local NGOs, multilateral agencies, impact investors, donors, and government agencies.  Our combined expertise includes agriculture, livelihoods, renewable energy, education, climate change, humanitarian contexts and private sector development: yet, ChangeMaker International’s niche recognises the critical need for localisation and sustainability, and therefore, on human capital development and skills and knowledge transfer, the clean energy transition, agricultural value chains and adaptation and related technology adoption and innovation to support these areas.

We recognise the demand, especially in respect to localisation and long-term sustainability of impacts, consequently, we leverage our strengths in: evidence led design:  monitoring, evaluation, research and learning (MERL); innovation; private sector development and engagement from start up to maturity; education, coaching, mentoring and leadership support to help build human capital, competitiveness, quality and sustainability. Our embeddedness in country & communities and our strong global networks means we are valuable partnership and coalition brokers and builders. The sustainability and localisation aspects of our work is enhanced by our strategy development, strategic planning and organisational development experience across the private, public and not for profit sectors.

Our Work and Experience

Renewable Energy and Climate Change Mitigation

The climate crisis, de-carbonisation of energy, livelihoods and poverty are all linked. ChangeMaker International can draw on first-hand experience designing, innovating, developing and delivering projects for the clean energy transition, including the critical energy-agriculture nexus and the energy-WaSH nexus. One such example where our team was part of the innovation and design team is the Powering Aquaculture Grand Challenge winner for fish hatcheries (a partnership between iDE Bangladesh and Renewable World) and as the lead innovator, design and programme director for Solar Pumping in high hills of Nepal  with Renewable World

Market Systems & Private Sector Development

We  need some text here to say why we work with MSD and how this links back to our mission for our clients

Our directors have an enviable track record of leading designs for the likes of the Enterprise Challenge Fund at AusAID – a first for AusAID as they partnered directly with businesses; and in a cross over with our energy and WaSH expertise co-designing the  Investing in Infrastructure (3i) a innovative and early example of ‘viability gap funding’ for small water and electricity businesses in Cambodia, Learn more about the success here

Women's Economic Empowerment

There is a growing body of evidence that demonstrates that women are playing a crucial role as changemakers in combating climate change. Despite this, in many of the world’s poorest countries, half of the population remains largely excluded from the formal economy and have little or no access to resources such as land, finance, digital technology and security.  This exclusion hampers their potential to contribute meaningfully to nation-building and economic growth.  It is important to note that gender inequality in earnings alone is estimated to cost the global economy more than twice the value of global GDP in terms of lost human capital wealth.

We support actors in the design of relevant climate resilient women’s empowerment programmes; design management approaches that leverage existing systems to streamline equity and equality.

A prime example of how we can assist is the work our director Audrey Ahwan led for Care Sierra Leone's partnership with the Mano River Union Secretariat, and the coordination of the first Sub-regional Consultation on a Model for Women’s Economic, Social, Political Empowerment.

Climate-resilient Agriculture and Rural Livelihoods

We  need some text here to say why we work with Ag value chains and how this links back to our mission for our clients

Our experience includes leading the facilitation of the co-design of Uganda’s national rural livelihoods framework (PMA) with Ministry of Finance and of Agriculture.  Innovative aspects of this include establishment of Uganda’s demand-driven, publicly-financed and privately delivered agricultural advisory services, and the facilitation of reforms to strengthen the demand element in publicly-funded research in Uganda.

Human Capital Development

The World Bank's recent, Choosing Our Future: Education for Climate Action report highlights the critical role education plays in cultivating resilience against climate shocks and equipping individuals to confront the climate crisis. The adverse impacts of climate change on education have been substantial, yet education remains largely neglected within the climate agenda, with minimal climate finance directed towards educational initiatives and Green Skills being critical assets.

We can assist organisations with: mobilising increased climate finance to support educational initiatives that empower those least responsible for climate change to become more climate-responsive; gathering robust evidence to address existing gaps in information, skills and knowledge essential for driving climate action through education; creating educational initiatives that promote innovative climate solutions; designing improved and innovative education solutions that generate learnings for what works; facilitating opportunities for partnerships and collaboration that spur climate action through education and; supporting governments to develop national strategies for climate education.

Examples of our experience include leading the design of the EC funded Safe and quality education for girls and boys in displacement situations and ADRA's Rwanda's and UNHCR's Education in Emergencies programme
